Newsletter: How to Become a Powerhouse Athlete

Are you setting the right kind of goals?

Yo -

This may sound dumb…

But I promise that it’s insanely important.

The fastest way to improve at your sport is to set the right goals.

And setting the wrong goals is a great way to be average, and miss out on all those scholarship opportunities that you’ve been working so hard for.

Goals must be centered around the process, not the result.

Examples

For instance, you might say: ”I want to hit 5 home runs this year.”

That’s a great aspiration, but it’s a terrible goal.

There’s no accountability to increase the likelihood that you DO THE THING.

Better Goal: ”I’m going to take 100 swings per day, and hit at least 20 balls in the air.”

This goal is focused on the actions and behaviors required to hit more home runs this year. That’s why it’s more effective.

BOOM. Look at you — already leveling up.

Turn bad goals into good ones

Squat 300 lbs  Squat 3 times per week, adding at least 5 pounds each week

5 Aces this year  Do 50 serves per day

Score 15 goals this season  Take 40 shots per day against a goalie

Notice how these goals are focused on the actions that will improve your ability to play the sport. That’s what ultimately turns you into a powerhouse athlete.

Oh and parents, you can apply these principles to the aspirations and goals in your life, too.

This isn’t just for your kid.

You’re not off the hook that easy.
