Newsletter: How to evaluate your skill level accurately
The fool proof way.
Yo -
We all have that teammate who emails a bunch of D1 schools and you look at him and think, “That dude is not good enough to play for a D1 program.”
Know what I’m talking about?
Don’t be that guy or girl.
Instead, learn how to evaluate your skill level so you know exactly what types of schools you should reach out to. (we’ll show you below)
The Wrong Way
Lots of players will self-evaluate.
This is a dangerous game.
Honestly, it’s not even a good idea to trust your high school or travel ball coach’s evaluation. Know why?
Because no one has a crystal ball.
No one knows what schools may or may not be interested in you.
Lots of coaches told me I wouldn’t play in college — I did.
Lots said I wouldn’t play D1 — I did.
Basically everyone told me I wouldn’t play professionally — I did.
What does this teach you?
The whole world is guessing.
The Right Way
Email 10 schools at each level.
Division 1
Division 2
Division 3
NAIA
Junior College
50 emails. You can do it, I promise.
Then, see which schools respond.
What It Means
If you don’t get any D1 responses — you might not be a D1 player.
You can still email D1 schools (because you never know), just make sure that’s not the only level you’re reaching out to.
Your responses will tell you where you should be focusing your time & energy.
This is the only way to know for sure.
I’ve done it the hard way, and the easy way.
Sending 50 emails is the easy way — trust me.
The truth spitter,
Jack from D1 Scholarship
P.S. You’re doing great. Keep going. The recruiting process is not easy — but it’s worth it. If you have any questions, you can reply directly to this email.
