Yo -
Another common question I get:
Should I contact coaches through social media or email?
The Answer
Short answer: Both
Longer answer 👇
Both communication channels work. The reason I propose email over social media is simple: players send higher quality messages via email. A good friend of mine who is a D1 coach told me this: “I have no problem recruiting kids who send me social media DMs. The problem is that I haven’t ever received a good one.” Players tend to put more effort into email, and therefore write better messages there. It’s also easier to format an email for fast reading than a social media DM, ironically.
Some of the older coaches are not “fluent” in social media yet. It’s not their strong suit. However, every coach in collegiate sports uses email on a daily basis. With social media, you could be excluding some of the schools that you so desperately want to get in contact with. With email, you’re not excluding anyone.
The real answer to this question is that you should do both. The more messages you send, on diversified platforms (i.e. many different platforms), the more success you’ll have. When parents ask me what the “secret formula” for dozens of scholarships is, my answer is more. More videos, more emails, more DMs. No one wants to hear that, but it’s the truth.
At the end of the day, it’s what you’re willing to put in.
It’s not fun to hear, but it’s the truth.

P.S. Do the math. If I send 10 DMs and 15 emails — and you send 50 DMs and 100 emails — who is more likely to earn scholarships? The answer is clear. Do more. That’s the best secret I can give you. See you tomorrow.
