Newsletter: Which coach should you email?

Emailing the right coach can make all the difference.

Another question I get all the time:

Which coach should I email?

The Answer

Short answer: The recruiting coordinator

Longer answer 👇

  1. For most D1 sports, the head coach isn’t involved in recruiting until the end of the process (when they offer you the scholarship). For D2 and D3 sports, head coaches are more involved because those schools don’t have quite as much money to put toward staff and travel (both necessary for recruiting).

  2. For small sports, head coaches also do some recruiting, but if you play a major sport like football, basketball, baseball, or the equivalent (like softball), there’s a good chance the head coach isn’t doing much recruiting himself.

  3. For larger sports and schools, you should always email the recruiting coordinator if one is listed. Sometimes, coaches are only listed as “assistants” and no one is designated as the recruiting coordinator. If this is the case, email the coach that corresponds to your position. If you’re a linebacker, email the linebacker coach. If you’re a pitcher, email the pitching coach.

The more emails you send, the more scholarships you’ll get.

It’s that simple.

See you tomorrow,

Jack from D1 Scholarship

P.S. Typically, you can find the email addresses for these coaches on the athletic website for each school. This will be the case for 90% of schools & coaches.
